Estes Park, Colorado will likely remain one of the best places to visit in our state. As the gateway to the Rocky Mountains, this hub has grown up around mother nature’s most epic landscape. Quaint shops, fun festivals, and awesome restaurants draw tourists to our charming town regardless of the season. For visitors looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of main street or Front Range residents seeking a restorative staycation, look no further than Taharaa Mountain Lodge. Nestled amongst the splendor of the Rocky Mountains, this hideaway has it all – recreation, comfortable rooms, and the legendary Twin Owls Steakhouse. Here are a few details you may not know about this Estes Park restaurant:

A Change in Ownership Brings New Life

The original lodge was built in 1997 by Ken and Diane Harlan, then owned and operated by the Tracy Family up until 2019. Throughout these two ownerships, Sandra Huerta and Thad Eggen owned the lodge’s fine dining restaurant – the Twin Owls Steakhouse. Upon learning that the Tracy Family wanted to close this chapter, the duo decided to purchase Taharaa and use their decades of expertise running an award-winning restaurant to breathe new life into this lodge. A lot of thought has gone into the recent remodel, taking advantage of the sweeping views of the Rockies from Overlook Balcony.

Twin Owls Steakhouse Welcomes Locals and Tourists

For 22 years, this restaurant has become a hub for Estes Park locals to celebrate special events. From engagements to graduation dinners, Huerta and Eggen believe that life is cause for celebration and are fortunate to be the place where people make lasting memories over good food, prepared with love.

Chef Richard Sickler prides himself on the finest ingredients, innovative dishes, and new takes on fine-dining classics. With that comes highest quality steaks, wild game, and seafood to complement seasonal ingredients. The thoughtfully curated wine list includes everything from rare, Old World vintages to California reds and approachable blends. A high priority is placed on exceptional service and treating each guest like members of their own family, everytime.

From the owners:

“We love our town and the people who choose to spend their time here, appreciating everything Colorado’s natural scenery has to offer. Thank you for the opportunity to take care of you and your loved ones in the restaurant we have poured our hearts and souls into. We believe magical moments happen around the dinner table with loved ones, great views, and a good bottle of wine.“
