Be sure to check the weather

Be wary of the weather! Afternoon thunderstorms can quickly pop up! Give Colorado a minute and the weather will change. Have a rain backup plan no matter what time you are getting married. At Taharaa Mountain Lodge, we have both indoor and outdoor covered spaces available! Our covered deck is the perfect spot since you get incredible views of the Rocky Mountains with the covered convenience of the deck. Plus, it helps keep the harsh afternoon sun at bay!

Make sure your guests are prepared for all the elements

Provide your guests with sunscreen as a favor before your outdoor ceremony, especially out-of-town guests who might not realize how harsh the afternoon sun can get here. It’s also a high altitude here in Estes Park, which makes the sun more intense. The last thing you want is your guests to burn! If you are getting married near a lake, be sure to include bug spray. The bugs are especially active in the afternoon and evening, so keep that in mind. Even a quick 30-minute ceremony could leave some guests covered in bites!

Plan for sunset photos

Sunset comes later in the summer. Make sure your photographer grabs you during the reception to take advantage of our beautiful mountain sunsets. There is nothing more gorgeous than our sunsets here at Taharaa Mountain Lodge!

Don’t forget to pack a sweater

Even summer evenings can be chilly in the mountains. If your guests are coming from the East Coast, they are probably not used to the chilly mornings and evenings we get out here! Let guests know that the temperature will drop when the sun is down, so ask them to bring a sweater or jacket. We also suggest getting heaters if you plan on doing an outdoor reception. This way guests don’t get too cold! If you prefer a consistent temperature, check out our reception venue at Twin Owls! This lets your guests enjoy the resort while having a beautiful evening indoor reception.

Decide on the perfect season

“In-Season” is typically May – October. This is when the weather is gorgeous, and most weddings happen. Looking for a snowy experience? Book in the off-season! December- February give you the best chance of snow. We have special off-season rates from November – April, which is perfect if you are flexible on your date! June – August are the driest months.
